Narconon International Science Advisory Board members are professionals who have contributed in the fields of addiction, rehabilitation, education, toxicology and detoxification. The board has played an active role in guiding research and outcome monitoring of the Narconon programme.
Dr Rohit S. Adi, MD
Chairman Narconon Science Advisory Board
Dr Adi is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has over 15 years of experience in addiction medicine. He is an Emergency Room Medical Physician at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Medical Director of Narconon New Life Retreat in Louisiana.
Dr David E. Root, MD, MPH
Member Narconon Science Advisory Board
Dr Root received his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine, after which he went on to serve 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Colonel as Chief Flight Surgeon and Senior Pilot.
In addition to his medical training, he received a Master’s Degree in Public Health from John Hopkins University. Dr Root is certified by the American Board of Preventative Medicine in Occupational and Aerospace Medicine.
Dr Allan E. Sosin, MD

Dr Sosin is the founder of the Institute for Progressive Medicine. He is a Board Certified Internist and Nephrologist and received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School.
Dr Sosin specializes in using natural approaches to replace drugs and surgery. He has over forty-five years of clinical experience in treating patients with traditional therapies and thirty years of using alternative methods in combination with conventional medicine.
William L. Marcus, PhD, DABT

Dr Marcus, prior to his retirement, was the Senior Science Advisor and Chief Toxicologist for the United States Environmental Protection Agency. He has conducted groundbreaking research in the field of environmental toxicology and pharmacology.
Shelley Beckmann, PhD

Dr Beckmann holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and has published numerous papers on detoxification.
Antonio Avila Torres, MD

Dr Torres, prior to his retirement, was the Deputy Director, Municipal Hospital of Mazatlán and Medical Director of Oceánica Rehabilitation Center in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Alfonso Paredes, MD
Chairman Narconon International Science Advisory Board
Dr Paredes was a Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He was Chief of the Substance Abuse Program for Brentwood VA Medical Center and Association Chief of Psychiatry/Substance Abuse for the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. As well as authored numerous published papers on substance abuse, Dr Paredes reviewed for five prominent scientific journals.
Dr Paredes led a distinguished career in medicine focused on the problems of substance abuse.
Dr G. Megan Shields, MD
Member Narconon Science Advisory Board
Dr Shields graduated from the Medical College of Virginia and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice. She frequently presented at conferences on substance abuse and public health, as well as authored of many scientific papers on the role of detoxification. Dr Shields served as the International Medical Advisor for Narconon.
Dr Sheilds practised family medicine for over 25 years and was the founder of Optimum Wellness.
